Tracer Radar Gun | The Best Entry Level Speed Gun I’ve Found!
An affordable speed gun that’s not a toy! You will not spend less and get something you will actually want to use.
Sometimes “entry-level” means inexpensive and sometimes it means cheap. This Tracer Radar Gun is a speed gun really performs as advertised and is all that many people need or choose to invest. I have seen almost all of the entry-level radar gun models and believe me, there’s some real junk out there.
I particularly like the continuous mode setting (you will be tripod mount it… just buy one locally. This setting will store the last 10 pitches without my needing to pull the trigger each time. This eliminates the occasional operator-error and most importantly, allows me to watch my pitcher from anywhere on the field. The Tracer has a lightweight & durable case with easy to read numbers & some features found in higher priced models.
One of those features is that it will average the last 10 pitches. This gives coaches a real idea of a pitcher’s efficiency
and acts as a 1st clue when they are getting tired and/or changing their delivery and acts when charted over time, acts as a measure of strength & growth!
What the Tracer lacks are some bells and whistles of speed guns beginning in the $795 & up-class, but that’s to be expected.
For youth sports, it’s absolutely perfect. especially for the modest investment!
Weighing just 0.8 pounds, the Tracer Speed gun is easy to hold all game long. The battery life is the best in its class, and a low battery indicator means you won’t lose power at the wrong time.
About The Tracer Distance and Range
Typically this radar gun will give you a 50-60+ foot distance in which you can track the speed of softball. This refers to the distance between anywhere that the ball will travel between the pitcher and catcher. So, unless you are in a larger college or minor league ballpark, you will get consistent, accurate readings. Obviously, this is a non-issue for practice & training sessions, where I think the greater benefit and reason to own a radar gun lies!
Using A Speed Gun With Catchers & Position Players
Arm strength is one of the 5 tools that scouts use to judge prospects. Shouldn’t youth coaches want to know and track arm strength too? I recommend that you use your radar gun along with charting in a simple logbook of your own player(s) and update it a few times each season.
It’s a great judge of growth, strength, and improved mechanics and lets a player know that good practice habits do pay off!
Thanks to its point-and-shoot technology, the Tracer Radar Gun is easy to use.
“The Tracer has an unbelievable price for its features and performance!
I hope my comments will help you to make your best decision!”
