What’s The Difference Between A Standard, A Preferred & A Deluxe Bleacher In Our National Series?

(*bolded words show your main differences)

Standard  Our most economical models include 2″x10” anodized seat board, single (1) 2″x10” mill finish foot board on rows 2-3 and double (2) 2″x10” foot board & riser board on rows 4 & above. Guardrails are included on all systems with 5 rows of seating or more. Our 3 row bleachers top seat height is under 30” so guardrail and riser are not required to meet building and safety codes.

Preferred  These upgraded models include anodized seat board plusdouble (2) 2″x10” mill finish foot boards on all rows and riser plank on rows 4 and above. Guardrails are included on all bleacher systems with 5 rows of seating or more. Our 3 row bleachers top seat height is less than 30” so guardrail and riser are not required to meet building and safety codes.

Deluxe – These are our optimal systems upgraded from our Standard” & Preferred models. They include aisle(s) with handrail(s) which are desirable by spectators, and/or required by local codes. They include anodized seat board, double (2) mill finish foot boards & riser board on all rows. Guardrails are included on all systems with 5 rows of seating or more. Our 3 row bleachers top seat height is under 30” so guardrail and riser are not required to meet building and safety codes.

Can I Install My Own Bleachers?

Absolutely. We will provide you with clear instructions & shop drawings so that even inexperienced workers or volunteers should be able to complete the job.

What’s My Warranty?

Our National Series bleachers are covered by a 5 and 1 warranty.
5 years against aluminum planks (aka boards) blistering, cracking, peeling, flaking due to weather, temperature changes, continued exposure to rain, snow or UV rays from the sun. 1 year  for failure of structural strength of any framework component.

Is There A Simple Method To Figure My Needed Capacity?

Yes, gross capacity is figured using 18 inches in width required for a typical fan. Here is an example Example:  5 row x 21’ length bleacher – 21 divided by 1.5 = 14 seats/row x 5 rows = 70 gross seats. Net seating is the gross seating number minus any aisles or handicapped spaces in the case of ADA seating. In general, the net seating is the true number of fans you will seat in your bleacher & tends to be around 85% of the gross.

What Does Anodized & Mill Finish Mean?

Anodized aluminum are used on our seats & riser boards. It is a factory process where a thin hard barrier is added to guard against corrosion & to resist moisture.

Mill finish are used on our footboards. It is basically bare aluminum, the natural finish that aluminum extrusions have when extruded. Mill finish will oxidize, darken and stain over time when exposed to air & normal use. You can order your footboards anodized for a more uniform look, of course this will add to your cost.

Why Do You Use Aluminum Frames On Our Bleachers?

Aluminum angled frames are today’s most popular bleachers though many larger grandstands lean toward galvanized steel & I beam construction. Aluminum frames are lighter & resist corrosion. One career bleacher manufacturer summed it up by saying that galvanized steel is kind of “old school” until you get to larger units & grandstands.

Does My Site Have To Be Level?

Our angle frame bleachers need a level site of concrete, asphalt, gravel, crushed stone or similar with concrete being the most common. If in doubt, check your local building codes.

What Surfaces Are Acceptable To Install Bleachers?

Our angle frame bleachers need a solid level surface and require anchoring to meet wind load requirements. Concrete is the optimal and most popular while adding concrete anchors.

Gravel, asphalt  & other level surfaces capable of supporting bleacher loads have been used & can be anchored using auger-type anchors that are literally screwed into the ground.

What Is An ADA/Handicapped Accessible Bleacher?

ADA Series Bleachers feature wheelchair seating areas with companion seating to meet ADA accessibility requirements. Available with chain link or vertical picket guardrail system.

What Is A Low Rise (aka Lo Rise) Bleacher?

These incredibly popular small park bleachers feature a 1st row that is closer to the ground and also has a lower “rise” between all rows. The reason for its popularity is simply that more rows can be built yet still staying under the 30” total height where law requires the addition of a guardrail systemAlso available as a transportable model too!

What Is A Transportable Bleacher?

Transportable Bleachers are designed to be moved from one area of the grounds to the next (5 mph. max). Sharing transportable bleachers is an affordable multi-area solution. They are designed & built with a beefedup understructure for added stability to withstand moving the system. Transportable Bleachers require our transport kit (sold separately) that includes a jack for lifting the system to insert the wheel assembly, the wheel assembly with attached axle, tongue assembly and removable tongue assembly brackets to secure the tongue assembly. A heavyduty transport kit (with built-in hydraulic jack and larger 14” wheels) is required for all 10 row and elevated systems.

What Is A Tip & Roll Bleacher?

Primarily used indoors (though acceptable for outdoors too), these bleachers tip and roll away for easy storage and are an ideal auxiliary seating solution. They are easily tipped up onto its swivel casters for movement, and caster brakes keep the bleacher from rolling when stored. We include non-marring rubber foot pads to protect floors. The aluminum understructure (frame) reduces weight for easier lifting. A degree of care should always be used when moving.

What’s The Importance of 30” Above Ground Level?

This is the height at which added safety requirements are required. Most notably, a guardrail system that is added to help prevent falls. You will also likely notice that a riser board is added behind the footboard to prevent anything larger than a 4” sphere from passing through as well.

Do I Have To Add An Aisle?

Check with local building codes if unsure. At very least, bleachers with aisles are a great idea and mandatory with larger bleachers and grandstandsthough they do add cost that may not be in the budget. In general, the larger the bleacher, the more we suggest this option.

Do I Have To Allow For Handicapped Access?

You probably don’t see these everywhere but check with your local building codes if unsure. At very least, the larger the bleacher, the more we suggest this option. We have a series of accessible bleachers with a good description for those desiring this feature.

Do I Have To Add Guardrail Fencing Or Picket Fencing?

This has most to do with federal regulation that requires any bleacher being 30” from the ground to have a safety guardrail or fence surrounding the bleacher. Also, nothing larger than 4 inch sphere is allowed to pass through any gap (which is why you see riser boards added at certain heights). The chain link guardrail-type is the most popular though those with more budget may choose the upgraded aluminum picket fence system for its superior look.

What’s The Importance Of Shop Drawings?

All our standard (not custom) bleachers have shop drawings available to you before you purchase. They are a very detailed “look” at your bleacher. Typical schematics are likely available if you have something unique so that you can submit whichever for a bid process. It is the detail as to why custom shop drawings are only available after we are awarded your job.

Do You Offer Color Bleacher Seats?

Available in our National Series in your choice of 4 team colors. However, it does add cost and can scratch off, especially if players with steel cleats come in contact with the seats. The riser boards (vertical boards behind the foot board) can be added in your team color for a great look and for a less cost.

What Is Run?

This is the horizontal measure from the front of the bleacher seat to the front of the bleacher seat in the next row

What Is Rise?

This is the vertical measure from the top of the bleacher seat to the top of the bleacher seat in the next row

What is A Riser Board?

This is an aluminum board that mounts vertically under the seat and behind your feet to close the opening to meet building and safety codes. They usually begin on row 4 but there are exceptions

Bleachers With Aisles – (see Deluxe Bleachers above)

Bleacher Riser Board

An aluminum board that mounts vertically under the seat, behind your feet. Closes the opening to meet building & safety codes. Usually begins on row 4, with exception.

Angle Frames

Angle frame bleachers are perfect for level surfaces and are generally installed on a concrete foundation. They feature a series of crossbars and support below the structure.

Bleacher Warranty – (National Series & USA Series)

Our National Series bleachers are covered by a 5 and 1 warranty.
5 years against aluminum planks (aka boards) blistering, cracking, peeling, flaking due to weather, temperature changes, continued exposure to rain, snow or UV rays from the sun. 1 year for failure of structural strength of any framework component.
Our USA Series carries a 1 Year warranty though we have yet to have a claim.

Bleacher Capacity

Gross capacity is figured using 18 inches in width required for a typical fan. Here is an example: 5 row x 21’ length bleacher – 21 divided by 1.5 = 14 seats/row x 5 rows = 70 gross seats. Net seating is the gross seating number minus any aisles or handicapped spaces in the case of ADA seating. In general, the net seating is the true number of fans you will seat in your bleacher & tends to be around 85% of the gross.

Anodized & Mill Finish Aluminum

Anodized aluminum are used on our seats & riser boards. It is a factory process where a thin hard barrier is added to guard against corrosion & to resist moisture.

Mill finish are used on our footboards. It is basically bare aluminum, the natural finish that aluminum extrusions have when extruded. Mill finish will oxidize, darken and stain over time when exposed to air & normal use. You can order your footboards anodized for a more uniform look, of course this will add to your cost.

Acceptable Bleacher Mounting Surfaces

Our angle frame bleachers need a solid level surface and require anchoring to meet wind load requirements. Concrete is the optimal and most popular while adding concrete anchors.

Gravel, asphalt & other level surfaces capable of supporting bleacher loads have been used & can be anchored using auger-type anchors that are literally screwed into the ground. Note that you will need at least 1 foot of “pad” around your bleacher-base with more being better. A 4” depth of concrete is typically recommended or specified. When in doubt, check for local building codes.

30” Above Ground Rule & The 4” Sphere Rule

This is the height at which added safety requirements are required per the US Government as of this writing. Most notably, a guardrail system will be included to help prevent falls. You will also likely notice that a riser board is added behind the footboard to prevent anything larger than a 4” sphere from passing through as well.

Guardrail Fencing Or Picket Fencing Systems

This has most to do with federal regulation that requires any bleacher being 30” from the ground to have a 42” tall safety guardrail or fence surrounding the bleacher. Also, nothing larger than a 4 inch sphere is allowed to pass through any gap (which is why you see riser boards added at certain heights). The chain link guardrail-type is the most popular though those with more budget may choose the upgraded aluminum picket fence system for its superior look. This is generally not a customer choice but are included when federal law applies.

Bleacher Shop Drawings

All our standard (not custom) bleachers have shop drawings available to you before you purchase. They are a very detailed “look” at your bleacher. Typical schematics are likely available if you have something unique so that you can submit whichever for a bid process. It is the detail as to why custom shop drawings are only available after we are awarded your job.
