He discusses warm-ups (the importance of and the proper amount of time to spend per drill) and key components of the delivery (balance, direction, and timing). He explains and demonstrates a sequence of drills for working on the delivery of a pitch. He concludes with drills for cooling down the arm.

In his 35-minute video Coach Smith is working with youth players to teach them basic, yet important concepts such as stretching and arm care. The bulk of the DVD contains a series of basic delivery drills that will allow you to teach pitchers from ages 7 to 16.

About the Coach

Steve Smith has been the head baseball coach at his alma mater, Baylor University, for 12 years. He guided his 2005 team to the College World Series in Omaha and after the season served as head coach of the USA Baseball National Team.

Smith was a standout pitcher in his playing days, leading the Southwest Conference with a 1.72 ERA in 1982. He spent four years pitching in the San Francisco Giants organization, before returning to the college ranks as an assistant coach, first with Texas A & M, then with Mississippi State.

Smith's expertise is in developing pitchers, including Major Leaguers such as Kip Wells and Jason Jennings, and since the inception of the Big 12 Baylor has had more of their players selected in the Major League Baseball draft than any other school in the conference.
