Chapter Review

This DVD offers youth league coaches a team defensive plan and approach, with progressions in several different areas. Baylor assistant coach Mitch Thompson starts with the three factors that every player needs to consider on defense:

Always think ahead (anticipate).
Communicate with other fielders.
Anticipate back-up plays.

These fundamentals are then applied to numerous defensive situations your team will encounter. Thompson explains each play using animated diagrams, which are followed by live demonstrations.

Team Defense is recommended for those working with players aged 10 & up. The 57-minute DVD has an introduction, conclusion, and 5 chapters of instruction and drills:

About the Coach

Mitch Thompson is the hitting coach and outfield position coach at Baylor University. Thompson has been coaching at Baylor for 12 years, which makes him the second most tenured assistant coach in the Big 12 conference.

Thompson played first and third base at Fort Hays State in Kansas, where he was named team captain as a senior in 1988. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Mississippi State, where he earned a master's degree in physical education. Thompson has also coached at Radford and Auburn, where he was the defensive coordinator.
