Johnigan explains the importance of good baserunning and proper sliding technique and has drills of good baserunning and proper sliding demonstrated. He starts with home to first base and getting out of the box, running in a straight line, focusing on the front of the base, pumping the arms, turns at bases and the curve, leaning into the turn, and hitting the inside of the base. He also discusses Figure 4, head first and hook slides.

BASERUNNING

Watch as Baylor University assistant coach Steve Johnigan starts you at home plate and works his way around all the bases, starting with proper steps & proper routes out of the batter's box, how to hit the first base bag and take time-saving turns heading to the next base(s).

Leads are properly demonstrated for both leagues that allow and do NOT allow leading off and stealing.

SLIDING

Chapter Review

This 44 minute DVD contains ideas and drills on baserunning, starting from the crack of the bat. Techniques and drills for sliding are thoroughly covered, as Coach Johnigan shows how to teach the figure four, hook and head first slides.

Baserunning & Sliding teaches fun and safe ways to be effective on the basepaths. The drills are easy to implement into your practices, and by using the correct techniques players won't get hurt as much, making their fear of sliding disappear.

About the Coach

Steve Johnigan has spent 11 years on the coaching staff of Baylor University, where he coordinates the team's offense and baserunning. Serving as the Baylor third base coach, he directed the Bears' offense to school records for runs scored and stolen bases in 1999.

Johnigan also serves as the director of the Baylor Bear baseball camps and coordinates the yearly Baylor Coaching Clinic for high school coaches in Texas.

A graduate of Texas A&M, Johnigan was a two-year starter for the Aggies at catcher and was named the team's captain in his senior season. He then played two years with the Cleveland Indians organization. After his playing days were over, Johnigan spent four years as an assistant coach at Mississippi State, where he received a master's degree in education in 1991.
