How to Run a Youth Baseball Practice

[box cover description]

Finally! An instructional video on how to run a youth baseball practice (8-15 year old players). Smith discusses the basic principles for a successful practice, which includes how much time to spend on each area, using groups and stations to keep things moving, focusing on the major issues, varying routines to fit your needs, and keeping practices creative. Smith and the Midway All-Star team demonstrate a day of practice. Coach Thompson explains the factors in determining the correct position for each player, how to put together a batting order, and how to put together a good system of signs for your style of coaching.

Once again, Coach Smith and his highly qualified staff nailed the topic completely! You don't have to wonder why Baylor Bear baseball has had more players drafted than anybody out there!

Their principles will keep your practices lively & moving, focusing on the major issues that all teams face each season.

Practice Principles & Tips Include:

  1. Keeping practice lively & moving.
  2. Focusing on the major parts of the game.
  3. Practice creativity & varying practices.
  4. Saving hitting for the end of practice to keep players' undivided attention.

Some viewers may indeed know and implement these items during their own team practices.but more correct ways and methods to save time and encourage improved practice organization is where this coaching staff excels.

The Drills Are Top Flight

The points covered are those that affect all youth coaches regardless of player age or skill level. Fun stuff that is easily explained and can be implemented no matter how many coaches and adult "assistants" that you have on your team. We can all learn a lot from this series.

I absolutely recommend this entire series to any youth level coach and/or parent who is involved with the training of their own ballplayer!

However, it will best serve to quickly improve those youth players of average to the highest-caliber skill levels who have some-to-a lot of baseball experience.

Chapter Review

How to Run a Youth Baseball Practice is a complete DVD on practice organization for youth league coaches. Best suited for players from ages 8-15, the comprehensive practice schedule outlined is ideal for youth teams that have only two adult coaches and limited opportunities to practice.

By keeping things moving, focusing on the most important issues, and being creative, the practice plan showcased in this 55-minute DVD is exactly what youth coaches desire. At Baseball Tips, we get asked all the time about which DVD is the best for organizing and conducting a practice. This is it!

As an added bonus, Coach Thompson goes over the traits needed for each position in the field, what type of hitters you want batting in each position (1-9) in the line-up, and offensive and defensive signs.
