Here's the deal. You run to the ball in time to get in front of it and catch whatever comes your way... when at all possible.
Learn to get a better jump on the ball, ending up in front of the play which gives you the time you need to reduce errors and decrease throwing errors that so often come from poor positioning of the feet
Everything in this game seems to begin with proper footwork!
And what do you call infielders with slow feet?
OUTFIELDERS!
(This is more of a rant)
Some version of this has been quoted as coming from HOF (Hall of Famer) Cal Ripken, Jr. I have no idea if he really did say any version of it, but just watching his career... he certainly could have. The great ballplayers usually have superior work and practice habits and many make everyone around them... better.
Michael Jordan has been said to launch fastballs in the form of basketballs in the direction of teammates willing to give less than their best at Chicago Bulls Practices!
I attended a Georgia Tech baseball dinner when the speaker, a respected College baseball coach, pointed to the table where Boston RedSox catcher Jason Varitek sat, and described him as the best player on that team AND the hardest worker!
Derek Jeter, the all star shortstop with 5 World Series rings... and counting, used to be called the 3rd best shortstop in the American League. Well the other two great ballplayers ranked higher & still have a grand total of 0 rings as of this writing. Jeter just does it all correctly; an on field example to look up to... no matter who is looking... and he probably has since he was a boy.
Ok, our Soft Hands baseball training glove is only an inexpensive baseball training device and carries no guarantee it will produce a Jordan, a Varitek or a Jeter, but... there is a lot to be said for an inexpensive training device that gently prods the player and the team to learn the correct way to handle any ground ball, line drive or pop up.
