What I've Learned From Baseball by Coach John Peter
The game of baseball is infinitely more complex than most give it credit for. Most that I have learned about baseball is common sense…but each lesson took someone with more common sense than I to point it out.
Coaching
The first coaching lesson I ever learned was not to preach winning, but rather teach the ways that winners go about their business (It came from John Wooden, the UCLA basketball coaching great).
Pitching
Don’t question the pitch… blame the location.
Hitting
A good bunter can easily raise his batting average 30 to 50 points. Still, players and coaches won’t do it!
Base Running
When in doubt, slide. The one time you don’t, the umpire looks for a reason to call you out!
Scouts and Scouting
Yes Sir, a firm handshake and looking a scout directly in the eyes when you are introduced will separate you from many other players.

Edge Power Gloves
The Edge is a variable weighted glove designed to increase hitting power and improve arm strength. Pitchers: This is the only training device that strengthens while the wearer is doing nothing more than throwing. Batters: Some players gain 3 to 7 mph to their bat speed simply from wearing these gloves!
Coach JP: This game is about arm, bat and foot speed. These gloves will help you improve the first two quickly & efficiently.
I am so convinced that if you do not see improvement in your arm speed and strength, call me and I will take them back (though I would like your feedback). I am that sure they will make you a better, stronger player!
Best Buy Hitting CD
Quality at Bats CD
Everyone says baseball is 90% mental...Then why do we work on it less than 10% of the time? After 14 season in professional baseball, Steve Springer's breakthrough CD has helped players learn the most important part of hitting: the mental side.
Coach JP: If this many people see the unbelievable advantage in owning this audio CD, I decided we had to offer it again!
Same special savings as our earlier newsletter. We now have it available in audio cassette too!
Every serious baseball player of age 14 and above should own it! |

Taking Back the Inside Part of the Plate by Coach Chip Cohen
Baseball Quotes, Wit & Wisdom
A hitter's impatience is the pitcher's biggest advantage.
Pete Rose
If you make a mistake away, it's a single. If you make a mistake inside, it's a home run.
Tim McCarver
The phrase "off with the crack of the bat," while romantic, is really meaningless, since the outfielder should be in motion long before he hears the sound of the ball meeting the bat.
Joe DiMaggio
Managers don't win games. They prepare players to win games.

Baseball’s Believe It or Not
The First Fan Appreciation Night
In 1948, a 26-year old night watchman and World War II veteran by the name of Joe Early wrote to Cleveland Indians owner Bill Veeck to ask why the average fan never had a “Day.” The innovative Veeck, known as the "P.T. Barnum of Baseball", responded by staging a “Good Old Joe Early Night” on September 28. A crowd of 60,405 showed up at Cleveland’s Municipal Stadium, where Early was presented with an outhouse, a backfiring Model T, and some livestock. After the gag gifts, Veeck surprised Early even further by giving him a Ford convertible, appliances, and a watch. Following the festivities, the Indians beat the White Sox 11-0. The game itself was an important one and the victory improved the Tribe’s record to 94-56. Less than one week later the Indians beat the Red Sox in a one-game playoff to win the A.L. pennant. They then knocked off the Boston Braves in six games to win the World Series. Since 1948 there has not been an individual fan night, and the year marked the last time Cleveland has won the World Series.
