Personally, I believe that velocity is over rated in the development of a solid swing. Just watch pre-game batting practice in any MLB park. They throw 55-65 MPH and they do it from 50 feet... not from the 60 ft 6 inch pitcher's mound! Why? Because it is widely understood that much of great hitting has to do with TIMING & BALANCE. They aren't trying to blow it by the hitter or trick 'em with varied speeds, but rather the value is in grooving good mechanics...over and over. This machine will do exactly that.
However, there are times when a bit more horsepower is needed (and can be a lot of fun too).
Starting in 2006, the Personal Pitcher throws the ball at four adjustable speeds: 20, 35, 45 or 55 mph. I recommend an age-appropriate distance around 22 feet.
If you understand that velocity has a bit to do with reaction time you will also understand why this machine will benefit hitters. Could you imagine facing a Randy Johnson fastball from 45 feet instead of 60 ft 6 inches? Here's some numbers for you to consider:
In summary:
The difference in your players swinging from 22 feet away from your Personal Pitcher and 17 feet away is an awesome jump that will teach the quickness necessary to improve to the next desired level!
