For Ages 9 to 12
This series is for those players who are ready for their first good glove.
I like this particular model for its size, high comfort level and the Velcro grasp clasp wrist adjustment system. It is designed to be easier to break in, and the deeper, wider pocket will help younger players catch what they used to miss.
It is lightweight and is a good size for this age group. As importantly, it is built for a younger, smaller hand.
The leather pocket and web are top quality US Steerhide, the lacing is thick and heavy duty. The backside features Lyte Leather. This product decreases the weight of the glove yet allows for easier break-in and a more manageable feel. Once broken in, it seems to last without premature breakdown.
I have noticed that there seems to be very few first baseman’s mitts that are built for this age group. Most of what is out there is either an adult mitt or cheap offerings of lesser quality. Of course much of it is also less expensive.
But if you can get an extra season from a better built mitt, then I would say it is worth a few extra dollars.
